log on to microsoft .com, support -> Update. Chose the custom option and uncheck IE.

Use this add-on:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419
It makes a tab act like as if it is IE7 so the website thinks you are using IE7.
Always did the job for me on Win XP.

Will try that but for the time being im goin to use autopatcher so i can reuse the same downloads on other machines easily enuf via usb stick (useful for computer technicians or what?!)
