help speed up a laptop

ok my G father bought a laptop b4 christmass from pc world ><

came with 256mb ram YES 256!! with 128mb sharged to gpu etc

he installed avg ad made it almost unuseable so i buy 2x1gb sticks of ram for £20

go to fit them today and its only got one !!! one!! ram slot! so mehh 1gb of ram it is .

still hangs on the blue windows welcome screen .

woudl say fresh install of windows but its only been booted 10-12 times and only got the basics on there atm ..

any ideas? im lost as its a laptop . i assume same basics as a pc tho

TinyXP is your friend.

Runs fine on a 333mhz P2 laptop with 128mb ram so...

My Granddad bought one a couple years back and it too only had 256MB of RAM, but even worse than that, I couldn't see any access slots to upgrade the RAM at all. So consider yourself lucky that it will even fit that 1GB in there!

Might have to spend some time to put tinyxp on his too (though I would love to convince him to get a new one, and this time let me decide what he should get).

haha well it seems nippy enought once it gets over the initial WOW slow boot up lol

cant complain gor £249.99 or what ever he paid

for a 14.1" or what ever the screen is on it

ideal cheapo with built in wireless
