Hey, looking for some advice

Yeah not new here, but it has been awhile

Well its been about three years and I think it's time to get a new desktop, and naturally since I've been out of the scene for so long, I don't know what exactly would be a smart buy. I'm looking just for some suggestions for (sorry that it's one of these threads) cpu, ram, mobo, psu, gpu, etc. I want something that's powerful of course, ocing is not going to be the main thing here this time, I really want a quiet pc, but if I could run Crysis (I don't know what games they use to benchmark anymore) that'd be a nice plus as well.

As for a monitor I was looking at the Dell s2409, that seems to be a favorite here, or a Samsung toc 22" (not full HD, 1680x1050 I think); I'm looking for an HDMI input and a tv tuner but I haven't found anything besides Samsung that fulfills that requirement.

I know I don't contribute much to the forums, but you guys really are the best forum out there, plus I have little nostalgia with this website (it's grown so much).

edit: wow, I'm just looking at cpu's right now, and it's completely different than how I remember (dual core just came out, intel regained the crown), there seem to be like too many processors to choose from.

If you get a high end gpu and a quad you may aswell get ddr3.

If its for games Id also stay dual core and save the cash as a quad wont help with fps.

E8500/E8600 and a top end ddr3 x48/p45 mobo.

I do full builds aswell dude, so I can spec you a pc, give it a good home case wise and send it to you ready to roll.

Well if im honest if your gonna nuy a new rig and you have around 1k I wouyld go i7 as your starting from scratch.

Many M/board to go for gigabyte have good reports witht he i7 platform rmapage II I highly recommend but ids more expensive, evga there all pretty good. i7 920 cpu overclocks like mad, some nice ddr3 tri channel memory e.g corsair /OCZ then its down to how much you wanna spend on gfx, how good do you want it? the psu will of course depend on your graphics but £100 buys a decent psu for pretty much all cards

I agree with both TTL and Swale the fact you have an i7 wont affect your FPS as TTL said but it will make it more future proof as Swale said... I personally would go for a i7 as you can see i already have ... here'es my suggested build...

Intel Core i7 920

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?IL-I7920

DFI Lan Party LP

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?DFI-X58EH6

ATI HD4870 1GB

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?SAP-48701

G.Skill 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit (3x1G

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?GSK-3GDDR3

Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?WD-5001AA

Coolermaster Real Power 1000w

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?CM-RP1000W

LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Rewriter

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?LG-GGCH20O

AND a good case and i think the MOBO has a nice inbuild sound card to be honest...

All of this comes to= £950 (overestimate)

*Monitor= http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?IIY-E2407 This monitor is amazing! and very nicely priced... although it doesnt have a TV tuner...
