Which Monitor?

Hey guys,

My friend is planning for a new monitor and we are a bit stuck with advise that we have been given.

I have been given the advise of the Dell 2405FPW 24" Monitor and he's been given the advise of the Samsung SM-2343BW

which would you recommend?

he has a budget of around £200

edit:

the other option could also be the Dell S2409W 24".

If you think the S2409W is an option - please vote for the 2405 and post here to indicate the 2409 or other monitor

I've gotta say that I love my dell, got a 19" samsung lcd tv next to it at as a second monitor, but the dell is so much nicer. At the end of the day its down to personal preference, but the dells are rebranded sony's so your friend should be very happy with one.

There is a difference between the 2405, 2409 and the samsung:

Monitor: Dell S2409W

Response: 5ms

Panel: 24"WS AU Optronics TN Film (M240HW01 V0)

Monitor: Dell 2405FPW

Response: 16ms (12ms G2G)

Panel: 24"WS Samsung PVA (LTM240M1-L01)

Monitor: Samsung SM2343BW

Response: 5ms

Panel: 23"WS Samsung TN Film (LTM230TT01/02)

SOOOOOOOO..........it looks like for quality, the Dell 2405 is the better option.

VA Panel Technology (the 2405)

VA (Vertical Alignment) technology such as S-PVA/MVA are middle of the road LCD panels. They offer better color reproduction and wider viewing angles than TN panels, but have slower response times.

TN Panel Technology (Samsung and 2409)

TN (Twisted Nematic) panels are the most widely used panel type as they are cheap and offer excellent response times, making them perfect for fast paced gaming. The response times of current TN panels range from 2ms to 5ms. However, color reproduction, viewing angles and contrast ratios of TN panels are the worst of any LCD panel technology.

Personally I wouldn't get a TN panel. I had a 2405FPW and it was awesomeness in a nutshell Only trouble is there's no HDCP

I have just ordered a S2409W for Xmas and have read many reviews and not saw one bad comments about them yet. Even on the Dell forums where there is ussually loads of issues with new monitors and people trying to get refunds I have seen nothing of the sort.

I would say they are a good choice at the minute, especially for the money.

I will let you know what the quality is like once I recieve mine on Xmas day.

In terms of a quality setup, I don`t honestly r8 the Samsung monitors over Dell.

We get Samsung monitors through here like a conveyor-belt, and to be fair, if u havent put them next to a Dell u could be forgiven, but I don`t like them.
