Is it possible to use a hometheatre surround on both the pc audio & the cabletv audio, and perhaps even being able to change the channels w a remote. (on a lcd monitor) Perhaps even having a wireless headset for late night movies. This sounds so confusing.
Get yourself a Receiver. They have numerous ins and outs of all different kinds (composite, HDMI, Optical, Coax etc). Then everything is put out to the same set of speakers and 1 screen. Switch between sources using a remote, then control each source with its own remote, or buy a fancy all in one.
Might need a few HDMI -> DVI adapters but it would work, it's probably the expensive option though.
another vote for the receiver gives you much better options and far easier than plugging in un plugging and such, and gives u the option to get an all-in-one remote some nice logitech ones i've spotted which i might invest in
