Iirc that was some standard that Intel tried to force on people around the P4 era.

Rambus was like 800mhz SDRAM that was used in P4s back in the OLD P4 days. Wasnt that great. Obviously DDR won.

Some desktop tools still refer to graphics memory as rambus. *think* sisandra does.

RAMBUS was supposedly a licence to print money for the company Rambus Inc. that patented the design who then hung on to the design for dear life and charged heavy fees to use the design ie they got damned greedy at all the $ signs they could foresee there before them.

You'd have thought that somebody would have told them the story of VHS vs Betamax where a lesser format won simply cause it was given away for a small fee just to make it popular.
