Advise on LCD or LCD TV for my rig

I've been reading up on the differences between a LCD monitor and a large LCD TV that can be used as a monitor on the net. Now I'm not too sure on what to go for.

I was after a LCD TV that I could combine for my PC and watching TV. However these have lower resolutions - has anyone got gaming experience on these and is it a total no-no for gaming. I will be using the ATI radeon 4870

On LCD monitors - I'm looking at 27", what do you guys recommend on the best setup to hooking up a video/set top box to watch TV on these? TV card? or is it best to have seperates - one monitor, one TV?

I liked the HANNSG at misco that was posted up and the viewsonic below it in the list was pretty good, 28" with 1080p-

Gaming on the LCD-TVs is ~ok~, it`s just not brilliant in the sense that the responses aren`t always as good and, the biggest thing for me, the colors aren`t as good as LCD-Monitors.

Seeing them on their own, u probably wouldn`t care either way, and be quite happy gaming on an LCD-TV. But if u went down the road of owning both a TV and Monitor, u would chose the monitor for ur gaming as a preference, just from the experience.

As to whether to buy both or run a tv thing through the pc - that`s really a matter of personal choice. Pretty much all the modern TVs would allow u to use them for both inputs and u could switch between the two. But it can be a pita when u want to watch something and do something on the pc too. There`s always pip or windowed tv card stuff (not a big fan of tv cards myself, although I appreciate how they work).

It`s not like the days when u plug ur pc into a regular crt tv and the fussyness is all over the place - today we`re digital ;)

i agree, i know its not the same as a PC but i find myself using my LCD monitor with my xbox 360, the colours are better.

my tv that i have got is a 40" toshiba and my monitor is a 24" HP w2408h.

TBH get a moniter.

hope this helps

I'm using a 52" Samsung LCD-TV (LE-52A559) as monitor and it's great for everything, including gaming. I can't say I'm noticing any issues with slow responsetime, but hey, it's been many years since I used a regular monitor for my PC so what would I know about the difference? :P

I used a LCD-tv for a year or so for both.. And tbh the sharpness and colours are far better on a decent monitor.. and i got sick have switching connections and not being able to do 2 things at once.. so i bought a monitor and never regretted it. I say..

Get a 19-22" monitor for around £130 then a nice LCD-tv for ~£400

If funding permits of course.

Thanks for all the advice people!. I'll probably get a monitor, first I'll test out my rig on a LCD tv and CRT monitor and see how they work out for me. I hope that HD 4870 1Gb comes out soon :)
