SSD prices could drop by half by Christmas

At Computex 08 Super Talent were talking about the future of Solid State Drives (SSD's).

For more info, read the full article.

I`ve got a strange feeling about SSDs.

Something like - they`re a really good idea; took too long to come down in price; capacities were just good enough; and since, something else came out to compete with it to turn it into a Jaz/Zip disk.

I`m not sure what it is.. maybe hard drive manufacturers will take the idea I had ages ago about putting 2 harddrives into one and them being raid by default and a new revision of SATA that it would support.

80g drive, off the shelf, looks like a regular 80g, but has 2 inside it auto-raided, no drivers necessary. Be a nice example. SATA4 etc.

hehe

When 1GB = £1 I'll probably grab a 150gb one for OS and a few apps... Even then I wouldn't be happy.

Storage, you need to be looking at 20p a GB...

SSD's won't be an option for me for a long time.

I'll go for SSD if either 120GB cost $200 or 200GB cost $300 or something like that. 100 is minimum for Windows and a few games. I have everything else mounted from my server (movies, music, files, etc.).

I so want to get rid of harddisks. They're the one most annoying thing when they fail (that's why I have a raid5 on my server and leave everything non-reproducable - e.g. from DVDs - there)
