Vista x64 Memory issues

Hi all, just wondering if I can get some advice on a little issue I am having.

I recently built a new pc, after an issue with a faulty PSU it was all up and running!

Now up until a week or so ago, my system was reporting 4gb of RAM across all the boards and everything was fine. One boot-up my task-manager started reporting only 3070mb of RAM along with the sidebar CPU add-on I have. I thought this was odd so I checked BIOS, System info and CPUZ, which all still report 4gb, so its not a problem with the RAM itself.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this issue, I have run a diagnostic tool and there was nothing to report on the memory and I have 64bit so it should be utilising all the memory available. Memory mapping is enabled in the BIOS.

Now I don't know if this was an issue with SP1 as I can't remember when this problem surfaced so not sure if it's directly related to the update. I noticed it about a week ago (I know beforehand it was showing all the memory).

System specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FS at 3.6ghz

Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2G

HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 1024MB GDDR3

Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38

Any more info you need let me know. Appreciate any help

isn't this the thing where you have to turn OFF memory mapping? since you have 64bit and 4gb?

(i could be wrong)

There is something silly u have to do I`m sure.

I have heard of a KB for something similar to this - cept u have SP1 on there so I figured u wouldn`t need it.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605/en-us is what I`m thinking of.

Chances are theres a chipset driver that`s screwed after SP1 is installed or something, if ur mobo is reported as fine.

I'll reset the CMOS again tonight and boot once again with default settings.

As you said could be a silly little thing that has switched causing the problem.

I'll let you know if it helps or if I can figure out what is causing it
