New PC - But no screen/picture

Hi there,

I just got my new setup, and started installing everyting. When it was time to boot to check if I had done everyting correctly, the screen was black - "No cable signal / Check VGA Cable" Standard message when you have forgotten to plug the cable or it's very loose. But the cable is alright, so I guess there is someting wrong with the GFX. The fans are going and the leds are lit, so the motherboard looks OK? I have tested the card in both my PCI-E ports, no differents.

I have pluged in the "PCI-E 6pin" cable, and a 2pin ground cable to the card 8800GTS Asus 512mb.

This is not the first time i build my own PC, but the first time I'm working with PCI-E, thou there were no manual following with the GFX and this card is not even up on asus website I'm maybe missing someting?

I was also told it might be a ram issue, and I should try booting with only one stick. I did so, tried in every slot, but still the problem remains.

Have you tried both DVI-ports?

That sounds pretty weird...Maybe the GFX-card is dead. Have you tried with another card just to see if the setup is okay? I would try that first, so you could single out where the problem lies.

Where on earth has no cooler been mentioned in this thread

No signal could be any number of things, as you and others stated, card is the first port of call. Try it in another machine (friends, familys, local shops if all else fails), if the card works test the machine wiht a different card to rule out incompatability. Ram that you KNOW boots at 1.8v would be my next step, followed by motherboard.

If everything fails CPU is the last port of call.

Im wonding if perhaps the Maximus needs a flash to work with the 45nm?

Is there any noise from the system speaker/s?

Pretty sure the Maximus runs 45nm from the box.. as it says on the box.

Don't quote me on that mind.

Hiya,

I have tested my GFX at a friend, and it works!

We tested my RAM in his PC and it worked.

Tested his Kingstone Hyper X DDR2 800mhz in mine and there was still black screen.

So to my conclusion, either the CPU or the Motherboard.

Looking at my LCD Display it says "CPU Init" Don't know what that means thou.

Looking at Asus FTP for Asus Maximus Formula there's like 1000 billjons of different BIOS, I probably have the first standard one, feels nice *NOT* I'll RMA the CPU and Motherboard to my retailer. Hope I can get stuff that works! But they are closed during the weekend

But if you have any other suggestion/tips I sure love to try 'em.

My friend had the same problem not getting screen output

Replace the psu with any old one. We got his working with a £10 jobby as a temporary fix. Just anything over 400w should be enough for testing. Give it a go

If that dont help, yeh it possibly is cpu/mobo
