Any suggestions please?

Hi, A couple of months ago i bought a new pc for playing call of duty 4.

The specs i know are as follows:

Intel quadcore q6600

4gb RAM

300gb HD

Nvidea GeForce 8500gt

Vista

19" monitor

Now, the performance in cod4 isn't great, in fact i'm pretty upset with it. I was told that if i was running XP my gameplay would be MUCH better but I'm unsure whether all the hardware will be compatible with XP?

Anyway, some ppl have told me it's the gfx card thats causing most of the problem, my game loads in like a millisecond but the gfx are running in 1024*768 and desktop is at 1280*1024. fps varies a lot and i'm unhappy with it.

Is there any way i can improve the gfx/fps without buying a new gfx so soon cos i don't have the money for it at the mo.

Another thing. Should i uninstall directx10 and install DX9? Would that work?

Hmm. Well the gfxcard seems the only obvious thing. It`s kind of unusual to see all the other parts in a pc.. and that gfxcard.

Uninstalling DX is an impossibility for a non-hackmeister reg`fiend, even then it`s dodgy.

Outside of a gfxcard, I don`t know what to suggest.

Its nothing to do with dx in this case, you just need a graphics card that has more power than the average pocket calculator.

Brandish together £100 odd and get a 8800/9600GT.

k cheers. I'll try and save up and get a 8800 i think. Is there a big difference in performance of GT'S GTS'S and GTX'S? Obviously GTX is the most expensive but for £100-£120 which would be the best buy? Prices will go down in a couple of months too won't they?

This would be nice you say?

Cheers again lads

Forget that. The 8800GT is much better.

I had one, and once I overclocked it I could play CoD4 smoothly at 1920x1600 with everything maxed possibly AA only on x2... Rest of the rig at that time would have been q6600 @ 3.6 and 2gb of ddr2 @ 1200mhz 5-5-5-15.

You should be able to get one on ebay cheap, or shop around until you find one in your price range. Brand isn't particulartly important either...
