Good to see them spreading their wings more with the soundcards, I'm heading towards picking up a D2X myself at the end of the month

It`s nice to see, and it looks well suited for a small case. I much prefer firms build on smaller pcbs if it`s possible and not feel the need to make a full size for the sake of it.

It`s also true that up to this point these little slots have been somewhat of a waste of space on ur mobo. Although u can use network cards, and of course soundcards in them, not many people re-buy these items with network onboard being fairly good and rumors of onboard sound getting better.

Of course mobo manufs have included enhancement cards for these slots, meh.

Is there an advantage to using PCI-e for transfer of data when it comes to sound? Some of the best 'cards on the market still seem to be using PCI, or is that going to change with HD audio standards becoming the norm?

I've just finished reviewing the Xonar DX (will be up soon) and I gotta say was very impressed with the quality of the card.

Edit : Review: Asus Xonar DX 7.1
