Laptop Optical drives

I'm after a slot loading slimline dvd writer for my new case. Problem is my new motherboard wont have any ide. So i was wondering if you could get the optical drives with a sata interface instead.

Cheers!

I`ll be honest with u m8, I had to get in 2 opticals @sata recently and thought it would be nice to get slot, and found nothing, for regular pc anyway.

Bet u could get one from like Acer/Dell/HP parts department, but that`s gonna cost.

Find out which ones Apple uses in their MBP/MacBook line. They are fabulous drives, IIRC they are Matsush!ta's. Not sure on the interface though, I can't remember after tearing apart my MBP.

Look up the Panasonic CW-8124B and UJ-845 (dual layer) or Pioneer DVR-K04

You will then need one of these: http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5414.html

cheers guys n girls. Will have a look at your suggestions.

llwyd, current plan is to use one of those adapters, i've "measured up" and it will fit nicely into the case. So it looks like i'll be going that way.
