System Defrag

The last 2 times iv done a system defrag, (once was in vista, then i formatted) and this time was a few days ago. Im defragging using the windows defragger (terrible grammar) i cancel it and when i did a system reboot, it said a file was missing and needed the windows vista DVD and for me to do a repair.

Now i dl'd O & O defrag, and i feel a defrag is necessary as i havent done anything to my HD, Seagate 500gb, with only 150gb remaining. But i dont wana risk having that error thing come up again, as it scared the sh!t outa me.

So, any ideas?

Do a full check disk then do a full O & O. The scandisk should find any system errors etc.

Use a different Defragger!

Auslogic Defrag is the best to tell the truth!

Can be found here.

My usual advice to any1 worried about something like this is for them to backup b4 they do it.

However, 500g... u got a spare 500g lying around ? >.<

U can take any random based windoes machine and do a defrag in it (from safemode usually safer) and it`ll crap-out a certain %age of the time. Some just lockup. U`r lucky u get a requester actually saying something. It`ll usually happen when u least expect it too.

From *memory* Vista was set to automatically schedulized defrag on a fresh install, I don`t know if that has been taken out.

Yep that's what I'd do. You can also use CHKDSK in O & O
