Games running *fast*

Greetings all, this is my first post so I'll start with a big warm Hello!

I'm having some troubles with older games on my HP510 laptop. Here's the spec:

Intel Pentium M770 (2.13GHz)

Intel GMA 950 (128mb)

1GB DDR2 SDRAM (Upgraded from 512mb)

60GB HDD

Yadda...

The problem is pretty wierd- some older games like UT and Deus Ex are running really fast. For example, if I put UT game speed to 50%, which normally would be very slow, the 10 second countdown at the end of assult maps takes about 4 seconds. I know that with older DOS games, the game will go really fast if you have a fast CPU, but these games are not *that* old and should run properly on any modern system. I have made a lot of tweaks to the machine since it was first purchased - I've removed a fair few startup items from the registry, I am wondering if maybe I've disabled some sort of graphics control software? My newer games seem to work fine i.e. KotOR, Republic Commando.

Any ideas?

Sometimes games that are running at very high frame per second will speed up.

A good exaomple of this is GTA: Vice City.

The best way to stop this is to turn on Vsync. Which then caps the FPS at around 60FPS.

Might be the problem.

Yeh I used to get that on Vice City but I'm certain that this is not the problem, partly because Deus Ex and UT don't have a vsync option or frame limiter. Another example of this is in Thief 1 & 2, the game itself runs at normal speed but when you're on the loadout screen where you purchase new sutff, all the items rotate uber-fast!

Just sorted this on my laptop mate. I was finding unreal tournament *original* was running uber fast! All you have to do is..

1. Create a shortcut to the UT .exe

2. add " - cpuspeed=XXX" where the x's are your speed in mhz, ie. for a 1.3 GHz you make it - cpuspeed=1300, remember the spaces. Just add it to the end of the target
