Hi guys, this is a topic for all owners of a MSI brand motherboard !
Post all your questions and your thoughts about Z77A from msi.
Personally I own a z77a-gd65 need informations ? post !

Great boards, annoying as hell to OC.
Their overclocking software seems to be buggy - I don't know about you guys, but my PC almost freezes as I try to launch ClickBIOS II.
I also don't like the RAID configuration screen, which significantly prolongs my boot procedure and seems to be irremovable.

ClickBIOS II in windows is laggy on my windows 7 64 too yes it's boring ... but what we can do I updated the bios 1 and it still launch faster than before
now the oc options is not too bad it's just easy

Well, the fact that you can't overclock from the UEFI is retarded. And I wish I could remove the damn RAID config screen >=|

Call me a traditionalist but I still like using the bios so the UEFI doesn't both me at all since I don't use it! I've got the gd55 with a 3570k. Maybe I would have liked to have an offset voltage option but meh overclocking is overclocking. Or am I just not fussy enough?

gd65 here too so sign me up
overclocking was a struggle to begin with especially seeing as voltages are locked in uefi, but i'm getting there. 4.6 @ 1.248v according to cpu-z.

clickbios does make system laggy for a minute whilst booting here too, thought was just me lol

I wouldn't even know where to begin when it comes to offset overclocking...
I just know that when i'm trying to stability test or whittle my volts down, trying to load a laggy POS piece of software really steams my beans. It's not the end of the world, as the end result is still achievable, it just takes a damn sight longer, even with SSDs.

Also, can you disable the UEFI and access a more traditional BIOS? If so, are the voltages unlocked there?!

Ah, I thought you were talking about editing in the OS. Yea my bios lags on the mouse too. I think it might be to do with the USB interface. I used a ps2 mouse at one stage it was smooth but that's not exactly a fix! Honestly I have tended to use the cursors where I can but the lag doesn't particularly bother me anyway :P

As for offset overclocking - it's the ideal method because you effectively just increase the turbo instead of having a fixed state. For example:
A stock cpu @3.4ghz may use 1.2V.
The turbo @ 3.8 may use 1.25V.
The offset is the difference between the stock and turbo volts. So in this case +0.05V.
So to offset overclock you just set the turbo to 4.5 and the offset to +0.1V.
So effectively you've made an overclock of 4.5@1.3v but the cpu will only turn on the turbo when it needs to.

I think actually this might be possible in the MSI bios but it could be hidden away. I remember seeing an enhanced turbo section but I haven't actually had a look in there. In fact I'm working away from home so haven't seen my pc in a few weeks.

However offset isn't as stable as fixed voltage because of the jump in volts and the vdroop issue. The bigger the gap between the stock and turbo the less stable it will be.

Anyway, I was planning on doing a thread on my experience with overclocking the 3570k on the GD55. It will be a place where we can all share our experiences and I was planning on adding graphs comparing people's speeds and certain volts and how people have gone about getting their OCs, best practices and methods etc.

I'd put forward any information I could - sounds like a good idea to me.
I think i'll stick to good old fashioned OCing for now - it's done me well so far, and as the rig is folding 24/7 it's never not under load.

Sounds great and to be honest i'll be doing fixed voltage to find my best OC too. I'll save that as my best working profile (for gaming, rendering and benching) but I'll only use it when I need it and then I'll have a play at offset for a 24/7 clock. Can't wait to get my WC on and get started!

My GD55 arrived a few days ago, it looks awesome. Such a good price at £118 too. Wont be getting used for about 3 weeks though, still got a cpu and SSD to buy (3570k and a 60gb force 3, if anyones interested).

quick list of my oc setup for my 3770k @ 4.6 on my gd-65 for anyone needing a little help. temps are during a f@h session, but HWM reported a max core temp of 75.

I've said it before on here and I'll say it again: the core voltage is NOT locked on the newest 10.5 UEFI, you just have to type it in manually. The software is just so terrible that I had to figure it out, currently have 4.5 Ghz at 1.185V with no software. Really wish there was an offset somewhere, it would help get idle temps down.

That's a lifesaver if it works - going to test it when I get in. I think you just saved me a lot of hassle in the future.
