PlayStation 3 sells out at launch

Electronics stores in Japan have sold out of PlayStation 3 consoles after thousands of gamers queued for hours in the cold to buy them.

Large queues meant some shoppers were turned away even before stores opened at 0700 local time (2100 GMT).

The console officially went on sale on 11 November but Sony only made 100,000 machines available on launch day.

Instead of opening at midnight, stores organised lotteries to decide who in the queue would get a long-awaited PS3.

Loto-style is a great idea imo. The people with lives and jobs who can't camp out infront for a shop for 6 weeks then have a chance.

If the graphics are as good as the vids around the 'net look, it might be worthwhile. Looks a lot better than DX9 PCs, though from what I've seen even the first generation of DX10 will give the PS3 a run for its money, and 2nd generation will probably surpass it. It is of course a lot cheaper than a new PC if you have an HDTV already, if you don't then it's not such a great deal.

Frankly I could never stand any console controllers, gimme a keyboard and mouse any day (and maybe a joystick for flight sims).

I quite like controllers for racing games (or even a steering wheel!) and fighting games are also good with controllers. fps games are okish

You could use a keyboard and mouse with the ps2 (not with all games afaik but mainly fps ones), and you can probably do it with the PS3

Thats a good idea!

But still paying way too much for the games! So you pay £1000 for a high end Pc and the games are about £25 a go.

But PS3 is about £300 with games costing £50 a go. It will slowy add up to a High end Pc!

So really haveing a good old PC is best ++++ you get a keyboard and mouse for FPS. And you can get the ultra comfortable Xbox 360 controller for PC too!

So my fave is the PC!
