7900GTX performance, 7800GS price -- 7900GTO

As some of you may know I picked up a 7900GTO recently to replace my 7600GT (not a bad card, but just not quite powerful enough). Anyhow, the 7900GTO is just a relabled 7900GTX from eVGA (old stock, original 7900GTX's). You can get the 7900GTO in the states for about $250... Yes $250! 7900GTX's are still selling for $425-480!!! eVGA downclocks the memory speed from the factory, but that doesn't mean squat. I popped in my new card, installed Coolbits, and instantly achieved a stable overclock of 725/800(1600) which is faster than a 7900GTX for $200 more. My first run through on 3dMark05 produced a result in the low 12,000's :D

This is a must-have card, and if you have dual PCI-E slots I recommend u buy two of these cards before you can't get them any more because Newegg is selling a boatload of these puppies.

GO BUY ONE NOW! ----------> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130065

I can barely understand how they can get away with selling it so cheap compared to the 7900GTX when it literally is just a relabled GTX with downclocked memory. Absolutely nuts!

They are available at http://www.overclockers.co.uk[/url'...e site that everyone tries to stay away from?

why? overclockers.co.uk is one of the best places in britain for buying pc hardware, i got my entire pc from there, and they accidently sent me a gig of DDR400 insted of some artic silver, i didnt complain :D

very nice, free is always good :)

I've just seen too many people with complaints about the shop... price gouging, service etc.

I thought the claims were a little exaggerated until I experienced the same lack of customer service, being condescended to, lack of knowledge and blatant lies.

I was returning a faulty DFI Expert board as it refused to work with an X2 4400 and 2GB of OCZ Platinum EB mem. I phoned the shop and was told that they would check the board for me the next day.

Next day, I drove all the way down to Stoke from Merseyside with the mobo, memory and CPU, in the hopes of getting some resolution to the problems.

When I arrived at the shop, the guy behind the counter started to tell me that there was no way that they would have offered to check the board while I wait and tried to fob me off.

The staff speak to you like sh*t and try to blame anything else apart from the product they sold.

Finally after 10 minutes of explaining that I had driven all the way down from Merseyside, and telling two different guys that I had been told to bring the board in, bla, bla, bla. they agreed (reluctantly) to look at the parts.

The so-called tech guy in the back even had to phone DFI just to find out how to set the damn board up - DUH!!!

After waiting for 4 hours, the guy tried telling me there was a problem with my CPU and not the board, yet the CPU worked fine in an ASUS board they had there and yet the guy refused to try it in another DFI Expert. :nono:

*note* the CPU is still in my AMD rig on a DFI Venus doing 2750MHz 1 year later... hmmm, broken CPU, methinks not :nono:

Eventually I ended up leaving the shop without a mobo since they would not check a different Expert board

I knew my CPU and memory to be working fine as I had only switched boards and they ran perfectly back then in a DFI SLi-D and still run great today.

Basically, yeah if your stuff works from them, then great :)

But there are an awful lot of unhappy (ex)customers after having to go through the nightmare of returning something and dealing with their lousy staff and even worse attitudes.

They're all nice n friendly when they think you're going to be getting out your wallet, but try to return anything and you're the spawn of satan.

*puts soapbox away*

Yep another disgruntled customer here. I stopped ordering from them after the problems I had a while back - their attitude plain sucks.

I have never had any problems with OcUK.

They are always the first place I look when wanting a pc part and there attitude seems fine to me both on the phone and when I have went in

as i mentioned, they can be very friendly and helpful when trying to part your money from your wallet, but woe betide anyone with a problem

you guys might want to google some customer reviews for overclockers

it's quite surprising the shear ammount of people with complaints about after sales service and the company still does nothing to resolve the ongoing issue

frag...is card architecture same as the 7900GTX?

It's literally a 7900GTX w/ downclocked memory speed, thats it. The first boxes that they were shipping the GTO's in just had a sticker over the GTX part that said GTO, lol.

It is essentially a 7900GTX with downclocked memory and a few less features

There is no less features, as frag said, its just a gtx with underclocked memory.

I have read alot about them on the ocuk forums ;)

It's called clearing out old GTX stock to make room for G80, which is due for release in less than a month. ;)

Then why not drop the price on the GTX's? Makes no sense :p
