ye my windows firewall is disabled. And for the servers, i have the box for the correct game crossed, so that shouldnt be a problem. ummmmm

Ditto, I've had the exact same problem when I didn't have the most recent patch.

I downloaded a patch but it said i needed 1.3, but wheneva i i dont seem to be able to find it  .

You must have downloaded the incremental 1.4 patch (patches 1.3 to 1.4).
What you need is the complete 1.4 patch (patches new install to 1.4).
Get it here...
Install that and it should fix your problems

Ok an update.....Ive downloaded a patch and it seems to be responding better now, so thanks for the link.
When i click to connect now it sats to check network connections. is that something i can do ingame or another way?

umm. well ive got nortan but theres no firewall optiions, ive also tried the game with nortan turned off, and my windows firewall is off
