RAM in windows issue

hey peeps i got my RAM today off tom,but when i go into my computer 4gigs show up but it says that only 2gb is useable,so what does this mean and can i sort it otherwise its pointless me having 4gb lol

Just a windows glitch dude, there is a fix somewhere, this seems to happen all the time tbh.

I've never heard of this happening in 64-bit Win7..... I popped in all 8gb's of my memory and it showed up no problem at all.

yer it is odd,when i go into msconfig and manualy set the RAM my system wont boot and requires me to reset CMOS

GPU-Z is showing 4gigs,not sure if task manager is i have 952mb free at 33% usage if any one can work that out lol

so how do i get the fix

EDIT-ok i reseted the CMOS again and i whent into msconfig and unticked the 'use max memory' and the CPU one and all seems to be ok now i have it running at 1066mhz 2.2v 5-5-5-15,i havent noticed no speed change tho i will get multi tasking lol

I'm sure that sometimes more memory can be bad. If you are not using it all then it will just slow things down.

Could be wrong but I am sure I read an article about it once.

i think 4gb with a quad core is not bad if i had say 8gb or 12gb maybe

also what is the difference between

and

Free

in task manager

ok i have been messing around and according to resource monitor i only have 2.5Gb of useable RAM,even tho windows is now seeing it all.

this is getting frustrating now,memory mapping in the bios is enabled,and i dont have a option for physical line extension or anything

i have attachd some screen shots for you to look at

are they normal?

Uhhhhh, in both those screenshots it's showing the correct amount of 4gb. I don't know what you are reading?

well in the resource monitor shouldent the available be 4094?

Available means how much is physically able to currently be used, it factors in the amount currently used for your OS and open programs.

I heard there were problems with that much ram on xp, though I haven't found much information on it.Win 98 does in fact have RAM limit of 2 GB, but as there is a bug in the memory management there may be problems when you install more

than 512 MB.
