IP35 Pro won't power up but power LED on

Hi all,

I have an Abit IP35 Pro mobo.

I powered it down this morning and when I tried to power it back up, nothing happened. No fans, no beeps, no post messages...

The mobo power LED (red flashy one) is blinking when there is power and looks as I'd expect.

I have removed all DIMMS, tried seperately etc... I have checked all cables, no problems there - I litterally turned the PC off and tried to power it back on so nothing inside should have moved.

I saw a post on hexus about the EXACT same issue, but the thread was never concluded and the last post was back in February.

What could be wrong? I'm fearing a fault mobo, and I haven't a spare one either. It has been working fine. Hasn't been overclocked for the last 2 months either. I've reset CMOS as well, and even the internal power switch on the mobo doesn't work.

My missus said this happened a while ago, and she gave up after taking the power cord out and plugging it back in, and she said after leaving it for several hours it worked again... (I was at work at the time).

I love my Abit IP35, it rox but I don't know what else to try other than wait. I guess you'll conclude the same thing. Its nearly 3 years old so no chance on RMA, but the fact that its not completely dead is confusing me. I'd expect no LED on it to show attached power if it was dead, but I don't know whether this is just showing attached power and the rest of the board could be dead... Was working fine earlier!

Ho hum, I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of this before now.

Cheers,

Alex

PS as per sig, I have a Tagan 900W PSU. It was set to turbo but I've tried setting to normal as well... Could it be a faulty PSU?

On the back of this I just took the PSU to my parents house to test it on their PC, and plugged it into another PC there. The PSU exploded, although I did accidentally lean on it, not much pressure but could that have been enough to short it??

I've ordered a cheap Silverstone Strider ST50F from Scan to replace it.. looked like a good enough PSU for the money...

I hope its the PSU that was dying. I'm surprised seeing as it was a Tagan... maybe it IS the mobo... I won't know until I plug my new PSU in, which is due Tuesday. I'll update this thread afterwards to let you know what happened, but if anyone has any input in the meantime I'd be interested to read it

Alex

Thanks Matt, appreciate it. Someone else has said that the mobo could have the red LED lit showing attached power, but that it doesn't mean the PSU is outputting the necessary power to start the board.

You really think I can contact Tagan after this long?

Yes I think you should contact Tagan after this long, especially if the PSU blew up. It could have been pretty dangerous.

Yeah it's deffo worth a go, especially if it had a chance of damaging your PSU.
