9800gt x2
Just got new ROG Striker 2 NSE, was considering getting a couple of 9800GT X2's to compliment my (future) 26 " monitor.
Anyone got a better idea ? Wouldn't mind just getting a 295 without going SLI.
Enlighten me !

its GX2.
26" is still only a 1920x1200 res mate and a pair of 260's will cope with that.
A 295 will rip it up aswell, but if you want 2 cards for tart like me then get a couple 55nm 260's or 285's if you must search for numbers.
2x 285's will outdo a 295 anyways dude

Would initially throw out that if a single 295 was an option, I'd go for that.
However, I'd want some1 to verify for me first whether the card is similarly drawn to the same SLI concerns that I may have as running 2x285 cards. Being as it's just 2 cards welded together under one hood.
i.e. the 295 has the same sli options as if u had 2 cards installed.

Isn't really a question of fannage - more a point of if the choice is there to go nVidia with the budget being available, I'd pick them.
If u mentioned u had a budget of <£200, the choices would suddenly change maybe.

In all honesty, If I can't afford it, I wait. You know what it's like when you get your mind set on something, especially when it has the potential to be the best in it's class.

If it were me i'd get a 285, and another later if you so felt the need.
Tbh I run a 3200 pixel wide desktop with a game at 1680x1050 on one screen, videos playing, browsers and msn etc on the other on an 8800GT with 0 lag, frameloss etc so a 285 will walk all over any 1920x1200 screen.

quad sli DOES NOT SCALE WELL just like ati and a single 295 will run better.
2x 285s will out run a 295 though.
Im a green team for benches and folding but when it comes to games Im with the reds sprento.
saying that the new ATI's coming have 'shaders' and a form of processing that will rape any Nvidia card folding aswell, all going to get very interesting over the next year.

Tom, if u have a 295, does it behave exactly like having 2 cards in SLI ? Or is does it have benefits over setting up an SLI. (putting aside the fact 285x2 bench better)
(I guess that's the answer I was after)
Can't argue with what Ham said tbh.
