Maximus Formula max FSB 480??
Well I have been tinkering again tonight, and after getting frustated that my Computer refuses to (stably) play ball at any FSB above 480, I dropped the multiplyer and tried for a nice 500FSB. No go. 490? Nope. 482? Sadly no... Does this mean I have reached the maximum my Maximus can take? I feel there is still some speed in my Q9450 just waiting to get out! I have taken the Northbridge voltage to 1.75 (Red!) and still no luck. Any magical tricks?
My BIOS is 1201 (possibly 1207, but I dont think so) if it helps.
Thanks
Gav

Try raising the PLL, but tbh, thats as far as you are going to go with that, quads rarely go above 450-500fsb, so consider yourself lucky

Yep the FSB issue is more than likely your Quad. I have 2 Q6600's here and one will do just over 480 FSB and the other peaks out at 490 FSB. You'll have a way better chance at getting a higher FSB on a dual-core processor.

Ah.. the PLL, the one thing I have tried to avoid as I hear those things can kill Ah well, 3.8 is still not bad, but I want to reach that 4 mark, impossible but I will give it a good shot. Regarding general 45nm quads what are "save" voltages? I have ace watercooling going on and even at 3.8 under load I don't go above 65oC which aint bad. I managed to get my old Athlon XP hitting 95...

Hmm, Id keep volts under 1.5v, although 45nm can be a bit funny with anything above 1.45v (apparently killing them, although people always worry about it and Ive never seen a chip die from 1.5ish volts)
The pll is fine to raise a bit, just dont go crazy

Well I think I have it sitting at 1.45 for 3.8, might be 1.55... cant remember. It seemed to play ball nicely, no issues, but even 481 on a multi of 7.5 it screamed about. I will give it another go tonight, cheers

I'd be very wary of going too far above 1.45V on your processor, especially for 24/7 clocks

Intel spec sheet actually says 1.38v as max on the 45nm so 1.4-1.45v for 24/7 should be used if you want your chip to last.

Wel I run it at 3.2 24/7 at 1.375 but I do like to benchhmark and overclock, for that it is only on for about an hour and I do not do it much, so I like to crank it up a little

I always try to undervolt as much as possible.
The lowest I dropped the voltage on my Q9450 @ 3.2 to was 1.1625V ( in the BIOS ), I probably could lower it more but haven't tried.
It's ran Prime95 overnight a good few times now.
