There is no way that I know of.

It is hard wired into the chip.

Well as processors don't really have a bios/firmware to flash the software half of us are stuffed.

We also do not have the skills/eye sight to be able to figure out which IC controls the lock.

all u need is the chip blueprints ic layouts and the like. it shouldnt be too hard to find provided you know the right ppl.

Costing time and money, there is no point as we can just clock the chip when it has the 8x and be happy with that.

thats sad wat happened to pushing the edge until it coudnt be pushed further then pushing it a little more. yes it would take time and money but show me one person who thinks it wouldnt be worth it to say " ya thats rite i was one of the ppl who unlocked a cpu". besides u show me one thing we computer junkies do that doesnt take time and money.

Thing is, if it takes too much time and money then ya might as well just by the Q9550 or the QX9650 and be done with it.
