Problem, help plz

I have a Nvidia 8800 GT 512mb alpha dog edition and i bought a Thermaltake DuOrb cooler. With the stock cooling everything is fine but when i put the new cooler on the screen goes black for about 30sec and then shuts down the monitor but the pc remains running and i can hear windows is loading but nothing is showing. I have a hunch that its a power problem but im not sure. Any help will be appreciated.

Rig specs? How soon after booting does the problem occur? is it at load or idle or both?

4g memory DDR 800, Core 2duo 3.0, Gigabyte N650 SLI mainboard and 550watt Antec psu. The problem occurs right when i boot

Well if you have re mounted the original cooler and it works ok, I would say either something is shorting out or the cooler is just plain crap and the card is overheating straight away

Was also thinking it was maby shorting out, any idea on a fix if its evan possible?

Well does the card work when you re-fit the original cooler? If you can identify where it might be shorting (metal contact or TIM) then you could

A. File it

B. Clean it or

C. Send it back and get something better

ThermalTake are OK in some areas but are renound for being way off the mark in basic air cooling and water solutions.

I put on the stock cooler and everything works.
