Random storage corruption

My Music drive to complained about corruption.. -crys-

So I do a checkdisk.. and all seems well..

But I have lost like half my music.. all infomation has just gone?

Jeeze, I need to back this crap up!

Nope, No raid.

Just an 80GB storage drive.

And suddenly a balloon poped up saying "Folder Guns N Roses is now corrupt."

Dodgy SATA cable or too sharp a bend in a SATA cable (they recommend keeping the cable bend at less than 90 degrees) can cause data corruption. Obviously RAID arrays are more succeptible to these issues, but data corruption can still be caused on a single HDD because of them. I lost my RAID array because of a flakey SATA cable.

But it was very random..

The music has been there for months.. even years. Why corrupt now?
