I would opt for a higher end C2D and spend the rest on some high end cooling so you can clock the pants off it. Would serve you better for the near future than quad core tbh, and you have the fun of overclocking it.

thank you kempez for saving me from myself... i thought it was silly and ill-advised to pay for a quad at the moment.. maybe this time next year... but not now

i like this idea... it was the goal though from the start to get water ASAP... but when you say high end cooling im guessing you mean something nuts like TEC or Phase

SATA2 is 300gbps. SATA is 150gbps.

Bearing in mind the quads clock well also, id still recomend getting one while you've got the cash. You'll then be futureproofed for a fair time. Theres a Q6400 about/on the near horizon.

Watercooling would be sufficent for it enless you want to break records. Pump, Block & Dual Rad filled via a t-line would be a cheap, effective & expandable start.

You can't just go buying any old phase unit for quads. They are currently in the process of killing off a fair few vaop & mach units due to them simply not being tuned for that higher load. And custom built units/the cost to mod retails are heavy.

i figured that was what sata II was... now i dont know what a 10krpm drive equates to in throughput but i think that it comes down to the drive having better seek times.. and im not getting them for th price per gig ratio... i have about 700 gb in sata drives from seagate that are going to go into some external enclosures for that purpose... but the two 150's will greatly affect my gaming.. my newest mmorpg Vanguard Saga of Heroes scans the entire game or most of it which is 20 gigs and it takes a while on my laptop and I would like it to take less time. Plus I need bragging rights . I have a dual 120 heater core rad from dangerden and an pump already.. the block i have is socket 754 so I need a new block.. and later I plan on getting a 200 dollar chiller and two 8800gtx blocks.

Pump

Reservoir

Radiator

I want this case.

Dirt is your friend

if ur gonna be water cooling id get a differ pump, maybe even a differ rad or chiller like u mentioned. those 8800's will run hot. if u want bragging rights get the quad. h/e im sure u will just be fine with a 6600 C2D. for the memory get the black sticks. again if u want bragging rights go and get the raptor-X, i got two 74g raptors myself, h/e price/performance/size ratio 7200.10 250g+ is best, personally id get two and raid em and they should beat a single Raptor-X.

ok that water setup i have is cheap but trusty.. why do i need a new pump? is my waterflow too low.. i would like a quieter pump... this one makes that sound like there is a plastic ball to let you know its flowing bouncing around.. which is ANNOYING... i don't know if i like the idea of getting a new rad.. what is wrong with mine... it performs great... i was under the impression that the others out there dont perform any better.. they are just prettier

i dont want the bragging rights associated with a quad.. and i suppose raptors arent so much for bragging rights as they are the fact that they sort of signify a gaming pc as load times are a big deal and i notice when playing CSS that lots of folks load faster than me with comparable rigs because of the raptors and im tired of that...

now what is this, two 7200rpm drives in raid will beat a single raptor? what magic is this?

external for space is never the same as internal. i have a box where i just hot swap drives for space too, its quick and easy, but im saying for performance wise u wouldnt really see much difference. the 74g is faster anyways w/o raid. the only thing the Rapor-X beats the 74g raptor is in Webserver I/O benchmark. Hitachi GST Deskstar 250 Sata in raid will smoke one Raptor-X. basically what im saying is if u want performance for sheer performance get 4 74g (as in comparison to 2 -150g as for space wise) raptors and raid. if u want the name bragging rights then get the Raptor-X. Price/Perfomance Hitachi GST Deskstar

argh now im getting frustrated... thsi is why i havent bought a new pc since socket 754 and wasnt going to till that rig died on me which it did... so frustrating to choose... i know all are good choices but i still want to make the apparently right choice.. im not getting 4 74gb... i at most will get two of the 74 or 2 150.... but not so much for space... but let me look at price... if 4 74 is better price than 2 150 maybe illl do that... i know tat 74gb is not enough as vanguard alone is 20gb... add in star wars battlefront ii, hl2, css, and whatever other games i get now that i have a fast and stable pc... soemthing my amd rig wasnt....
