Game dilemma!

Im just getting into gaming after building my first gaming rig and im fed up with using the keyboard and mouse to play games.

Can i use an xbox360 controller either using wireless or a wired controller?

If so where can i get cheap controllers for?

Wireless controllers need an adapter, but wired ones work almost straight away. It's one of the only things that the driver download tool has actually worked for.

hmm, i've been having a read up and a lot of places are selling seperate xbox only and xbox/pc controllers. That's a bit wierd as my old house had many a controller floating round, I'd just pick one up and plug it in. There was never any trouble connecting them.

I press the Live button on the controller whilst playing on the pc and in a number of games the Live pop-up comes along like the xbox. Any1 confirm that it will then work in the same way ?

I have the Microsoft Crossfire thing.. Means I can use my wireless controller on my PC.. I use it for Trackmania and Fallout 3..
