It sounds like your local PC guy was telling you to get a surge protector, whereas you're now thinking of getting a UPS. You shouldn't need a UPS to safely run a PC.

TRIM will work when you're in RAID mode on the latest Intel storage driver so long as you don't actually have the SSD...

I have the 3000, essentially a 300 with a newer look, and it does the job.
I would look for a cheaper 300 set though, since I don't see any of those extra bits being useful.
