Hi everyone,
This has morphed from a thread I started in the motherboards and CPU section. I have decided to put it here instead and change the question I am asking. I am looking to build a new rig for under £650. I am currently looking around the Intel i5 series. The rig will be used for light gaming, as well as more mundane, not so fun things, so I don't need the best of the best graphics card. Also, preferably with 2TB of storage. I have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. As I need to buy a copy of Windows 7, I am looking for an 1155 rig for about £575. What suggestions do people have? One last point, I don't plan on overclocking and would like this rig to last for the next 5+ years with little change. Thanks, Mark |
3570, MSI Z77a-GD45/55/65.
If you're buying soon, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MB-199-MS that is a very good deal. Then your choice of case, Corsair CX 500 / 600 power supply. Then dependant on whether you want an SSD, you could probably squeeze out a 7850 for gaming. Otherwise a 560ti will do fine. |

With the cost of a 3570, a 7850, the motherboard and ram you suggested, the PSU, and 2TB HDD, it seems to be around £660 before I find a case |
Are the 'less fun things' going to be that CPU intensive that you didn't want to go for an i3 instead? If you're not doing intensive gaming (like if you're not going to be playing modern AAA games), or overclocking, you could probably build something just as good for a bit less.
If it's not going to get any extreme use or have to render complicated graphics etc, I'd be tempted to go for something like; http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/1RVG2FZZQAMIM Didn't take much time over that BTW, just a rough idea. |
Well if your looking for light gaming this is what ive got it around £600 only £25 over budget :)

maybe something like this:

Drop the i5, get an i3, spend more money on the graphics card. This is for gaming, where the GPU horsepower is far more important.
